ROCHESTER, N.Y., Jan. 28 — Carestream Health, Inc., has obtained a medical device license from Health Canada for its CARESTREAM DRX-1 System and will immediately begin taking orders for this innovative digital radiography system in Canada.
The DRX-1 system is the world’s first wireless, cassette-sized DR detector designed to fit existing x-ray rooms without modification.
“Our new DR system is designed to solve workflow and productivity challenges that healthcare providers face every day—and it can help them to improve patient care while reducing expenses,” said Diana L. Nole, President, Digital Medical Solutions, Carestream Health. “The DRX-1 can help medical professionals achieve the benefits of an all-digital workflow at a lower cost. It is an extremely attractive option for facilities that want to improve productivity and image quality in existing film or CR rooms, but may not have the budget for equipment replacement during these challenging economic times.”
Healthcare professionals that have seen the new DR detector compliment its affordability and productivity. Since this new detector can be employed in all applications where a 14 x 17 inch (35 x 43 cm) x-ray cassette would be used, it can be easily incorporated into all types of radiology environments and does not require modification of existing rooms.
In addition to high-volume departments and imaging centers, the DRX-1 system’s speed and affordability will make it an excellent choice for emergency departments, operating suites and portable exams.
The DRX-1 system will deliver high-quality preview images in about five seconds. Its compact size and light weight further enhance convenience and throughput. The CARESTREAM DRX-1 System will be available in many regions of the world in 2009.
Carestream Health demonstrated the DRX-1 System as a work in progress at the 2008 meeting of the Radiological Society of North America in December. The company markets a broad portfolio of CR and DR systems that equips hospitals, outpatient imaging centers, orthopaedic practices and other healthcare providers with digital image capture for x-ray imaging studies.
