Company Reaches One Billion Images In Its Storage Cloud Worldwide March 5, 2010

VIENNA, March 5―CARESTREAM eHealth Managed Services (eMS) cloud has  reached one billion stored images worldwide, representing more than 500 terabytes of data. The company currently operates eight data centres in five countries throughout Europe and North America, with more planned to open soon in Japan and Argentina.

CARESTREAM eMS provides a full range of eHealth services―from eHealth Archive services to eHealth PACS services and eHealth collaboration services―to hospitals and radiology centres. The data is stored on data centres, fully protected and instantly retrievable by any authorised user, enabling multi-site workflow and image distribution.

Maasstad Ziekenhuis in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, one of the latest implementations of CARESTREAM eMS, signed a long term pay-per-study service agreement with Carestream Health for remote storage of DICOM and non-DICOM data.  The site uses the CARESTREAM eMS service as a PACS neutral remote archive to secure the 180,000 studies generated annually by the Maasstad facility. Over 25 additional terabytes of legacy data is currently being migrated.

“We selected Carestream Health to migrate and manage our large
volumes of data as they were ahead of their competitors in leveraging an eMs
service, in particular with their technical configuration and expertise,” said Tjeerd Canrinus, IT Manager at Maasstad Ziekenhuis. “We had a smooth connection to the service and are now archiving all types of data without any management burden. We have even started discussions to expand the service to other data produced by Maasstad hospital”

The move to CARESTREAM eHealth Managed Services has proved so successful that there are plans to make it the foundation of a full information management system at Maasstad Ziekenhuis.

Worldwide hospitals are facing significant increases in the volume of medical data, combined with increasing constraints on security and availability. The expertise required to guarantee long term enterprise wide access to data is becoming increasing out of reach for many hospitals or imaging centres. Connecting to the Carestream eHealth Managed Service cloud thus becomes the solution for the future: it allows multiple healthcare facilities to share a common data centre platform and pay only a fraction of the total cost based on their own use. Capital and operational expenses are reduced, since all hardware, software, maintenance, monitoring, upgrades and obsolescence management are included as part of the service. Risk is also decreased thanks to access to high level specialised expertise and technology
